132kVCable Tunnel Diversion Sittingbourne

Client: Seeboard plc
Project Value: £250,000
Scope:

As part of the upgrading of the A249/A2 trunk road junction just north of Sittingbourne, Kent, Seeboard’s existing 132kV cables had to be diverted beneath the route of the new  dual carriageway.

A 2m dia tunnel, 80m long, was built  with access via two 17m deep x 3m dia shafts at either end. The initial phase of the contract had to be completed in 12 weeks, including the installation of cable support framework, to allow Seeboards specialist contractor to install the new 132kv power cables at a period of low demand.

Following completion and energising of the new cables, Delta returned to site after 4 weeks to construct the headhouses above each shaft and all works were successfully completed in 16 weeks.
