Oxford Grove Tank Ilfracombe

Client: South West Water
Project Value: £450,000
Scope:

To alleviate flooding at peak storm conditions a segmental concrete storage tank was constructed in a popular public car park. A tight 13 week programme of works was agreed in order to return the car park to public use for the beginning of the summer season.

Hydraulically, the Construction of a 15m dia tank x 8m deep was needed. Initially, the tank was excavated to formation level with the first 3m battered. The installation of a 150 dia augerbored connection to the existing sewerage network then followed, after which the tank was lined up from base using precast concrete segments each weighing 3 tonnes. When lining was completed four roof beams, weighing up to 38 tonnes each and precast on site, were lowered into position using a 200 tonne crane. The project also required open cut works,  manhole and CSO improvements and was completed on time.
