Scope:

The project was awarded to Delta using an ECC form of partnering contract. The main purpose of the scheme was install a replacement pumping station in Gloucester Docks, comprising of  4no 2cu.m. pumps, to maintain the water levels in the docks basin and Sharpness canal. The main civil works consisted of: The demolition and replacement of the off-take structure on the nearby river Severn, demolition and replacement of the outlet structure in the docks basin, reinforced concrete pumping station chamber constructed within an 18m x 15m x 10m deep sheet piled cofferdam, a control building, new 2.1m dia tunnel from pumping station to new off-take structure, a timber heading connecting to existing off-take culvert and the existing ground anchors severed and new ones installed. Delta were also responsible for the procurement, installation and commissioning of all the ’Mechanical & Electrical’ works. PFW consultants, highly experience in this field, were employed to assist in coordinating this element of the contract as it was recognised as crucial to the success of Delta’s pre-qualification package and at the ultimate bid stage.
