Sidmouth Storage Tank Devon

Client: South West Water / M J Gleeson
Project Value: £664,500
Scope:

As part of the new sewerage system being installed in Sidmouth a storage tank, situated at the junction of the River Otter and the sea was required, to intercept the flows. Hydraulically, construction of a 17.5m Dia segmental storage tank 12m deep was required to deal with a 1in 20 year storm. This was sunk as a jacked down caisson through very weak sandstone although the the upper soil contained some contaminated ground which had to be delivered to a licensed tip. Due to the very high water table a deep well dewatering system was installed and in use from the beginning of the excavation. Pouring of an initial 1m thick concrete base using 212cu.m of concrete in one pour completed Delta’s contracted works. Upon completion of the project the sewerage will be pumped 2kms in land to the new ST works and discharged along a parallel gravity pipeline out to sea via a new extended sea outfall
